Behind the Designs

In a serene neighborhood with sweeping Mount Diablo views, we revitalized a dated 1980s cottage into a warm, modern retreat. Explore how vaulted ceilings, thoughtfully placed skylights, and subtle Japanese accents bring new life and global style.

ODS Architecture + Interiors is a full-service firm specializing in luxury custom homes, whole-house transformations, and boutique commercial design. We blend contemporary warmth and refined detail to create spaces that stand the test of time—ensuring each project is as functional as it is beautiful.

Piedmont Tudor Estate

A family of four purchased this 1.3-acre Piedmont estate for its seclusion and sweeping views of San Francisco Bay. Built in the 1920s, the home had real bones but needed modernization. The goal throughout was to honor the integrity of the original architecture while making it work for how this family actually lives. A seismically unsafe chimney was removed, opening the butler's pantry to the kitchen. New custom windows were fabricated to match the leaded glass character of the dining room originals. Existing cabinetry was refurbished and integrated with new millwork, black stone counters, and an arsenic green interior that references the period's original paint palette. Layers of creamy white and deep green contrast with the walnut island and herringbone oak flooring. At the refrigerator, an antiqued mirrored panel references old windows and quietly disguises the appliance behind it. A hidden pantry reconfigures the original design intent into a layout that works better with the kitchen's flow. The breakfast room overlooks the front garden, its hand-painted wallpaper adding warmth and pattern. Twelve skylights were added to the attic, each one carefully oriented away from the street and toward the view, preserving the home's original roofline profile from the outside while flooding the interior with light. The attic itself is now a family gathering space with views that make the addition worth every decision that led to it. A home that carries its history lightly, and lives beautifully in the present.
