Cole Valley Victorian

A creative couple, an artist and a devoted Burning Man attendee, wanted their San Francisco Victorian kitchen to reflect who they actually are. Rather than a straightforward update, the project became a study in personality: how to layer warmth, wit, and genuine utility into a single space. The kitchen was reorganized around how the family actually lives. A workbench for their son, a drop zone with a phone charging station, and a wet bar with a glass rinser for the husband each found a place within a layout that runs from the south-facing windows to the rear garden. Two islands anchor the center, one stainless steel with an oak topper, the other oak with a quartz counter, continuing the kitchen's warm and cool dialogue. Deep grey cabinets stretch the full height of the room, with rhythmic routed lines and brass pulls adding a quiet verticality. Open oak cubbies display the family's pottery and sculpture. Behind one of those cabinet doors is the powder room, covered in cat motif wallpaper. The reason: the kitty litter boxes live inside the custom vanity. A small wood tunnel connects the vanity directly to the kitchen so the cats are never locked out. Motion sensor lights and fans handle the rest. Downstairs, the basement was reorganized to include a new legal bedroom and steam bathroom for a visiting grandfather, opening directly to the rear garden, the hot tub, and a new outdoor shower. A home that works exactly as its owners do, with care, creativity, and a sense of humor. Project Manager | Mariati Paham Photographer | Mark Compton
