Ajax Place Retro

This 1978 multi split-level house is perched at the edge of the Tilden Regional Park, and the original design conforms to the gently hilled topography. Our clients wanted to improve their main bedroom suite by adding more storage for clothing, a larger dressing area, along with a new audio system. And since the clients hosted a lot of gatherings, adding a powder room was essential.

Our design carves space from the original main bathroom, and now both the main bath and powder room are lit via a continuous band of clerestory windows and feature patina-aged Douglas Fir planked ceiling. The main bath tile is tricolor, paying homage to the UC Berkeley Bears colors–navy, ochre, and white.

“Stacy Eisenmann and her staff are terrific—creative, knowledgeable, well organized, meticulous, and always a pleasure to work with. Our project was fairly small, primarily the remodeling of one bathroom and the creation of a half bath near the front door, but it also involved relocation of closets, new wiring and lighting, and the design of a beautiful storage unit/headboard in the main bedroom. Our house is a late-70s gem designed by the architect Warren Callister, and we wanted to stay consistent with the house's style while meeting our personal needs and tastes. Eisenmann Architecture, working closely with our contractor (Wood Horse Construction), came through with flying colors! I recommend them unreservedly.”
